Job description
The Yard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily container yard operations at the terminal, ensuring efficient container receiving, stacking, retrieval, shifting, and yard organization. The role involves coordinating with vessel operations, gate operations, equipment operators, and maintenance teams to maintain smooth workflow, achieve productivity targets, and ensure compliance with operational procedures and safety standards. The candidate must have strong knowledge of container terminal operations, yard management systems, and workforce supervision.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily yard operations, including container receiving, stacking, retrieval, and shifting.
- Coordinate container movements with vessel operations, gate operations, and other terminal departments.
- Monitor yard capacity, container positioning, and stacking arrangements.
- Coordinate with equipment operators to ensure efficient utilization of terminal equipment.
- Monitor operational productivity and ensure container handling activities meet performance targets.
- Use NAVIS SPARCS N4 and related systems to monitor and manage container yard activities.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams regarding equipment breakdowns and operational disruptions.
- Supervise yard personnel and allocate duties according to operational requirements.
- Ensure compliance with terminal safety procedures and housekeeping standards.
- Monitor RDT/VMT systems and related operational technologies.
- Coordinate gate operations and Container Freight Station (CFS) activities when required.
- Prepare operational reports and escalate delays, incidents, and performance issues to management.
- Ensure proper communication between shifts and maintain continuity of operations.
Requirements
- Minimum Secondary School Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in container terminal operations.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Yard Supervisor.
- Good knowledge of NAVIS SPARCS N4 and container yard management.
- Understanding of container handling, stacking, retrieval, and yard planning.
- Knowledge of gate operations, CFS activities, and equipment planning.
- Familiarity with RDT/VMT systems and terminal operational technology.
- Proven ability to supervise and coordinate a workforce effectively.
- Strong understanding of terminal safety procedures and operational standards.
- Fluent English communication skills are mandatory.
