Job description
Operate Ship-to-Shore (STS) Gantry Cranes with a 61-ton Safe Working Load (SWL) for loading and unloading containers from container vessels. Ensure safe, accurate, and efficient crane operations in accordance with vessel working instructions, manufacturer guidelines, terminal procedures, and applicable safety regulations while meeting operational productivity targets.
Responsibilities
- Operate STS/Panamax Gantry Cranes for loading and unloading containers from vessels.
- Safely lift, transfer, and position containers according to vessel stowage plans and operational instructions.
- Follow approved crane operating procedures, lifting limitations, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Coordinate with vessel personnel, terminal supervisors, signalers, and ground staff during operations.
- Monitor crane performance and maintain productivity and operational efficiency targets.
- Conduct pre-operational inspections and report equipment defects or abnormal operating conditions.
- Follow emergency procedures and comply with terminal safety standards and QatarEnergy lifting equipment requirements.
- Maintain clear communication with relevant personnel throughout crane operations.
- Perform shift duties and work safely at height when required.
- Immediately report incidents, unsafe conditions, and equipment malfunctions.
Requirements
- Minimum Secondary School Education.
- Valid equipment-specific STS/Gantry Crane Operator Certification.
- Valid Qatari Crane Operator Licence.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in container terminal operations.
- Proven experience operating STS/Panamax Gantry Cranes for container vessel loading and unloading.
- At least 3 years of experience as an STS Gantry Crane Operator.
- Must meet the applicable competence requirements stipulated in QatarEnergy Lifting Equipment Regulation, Document No. CORP-PAI-STD-005, Appendix (B).
- Thorough knowledge of crane operating procedures, manufacturer instructions, lifting limitations, emergency procedures, and terminal safety requirements.
- Physically fit to work at height and perform shift duties.
