Job description
Operate Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) Cranes with a 40-ton Safe Working Load (SWL) for container stacking, retrieval, and yard movements within container terminal operations. Ensure safe, accurate, and efficient container handling using RDT, handheld, and VMT systems while complying with operational procedures and applicable safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Operate RTG cranes for stacking, retrieving, and transferring containers within the terminal yard.
- Safely lift, move, and position containers according to yard plans and operational instructions.
- Execute container movement assignments accurately through RDT, handheld, and VMT systems.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and verify the proper functioning of crane safety devices.
- Follow approved operating procedures, lifting limitations, and terminal safety requirements.
- Coordinate with yard planners, terminal supervisors, truck drivers, and other operational personnel.
- Monitor crane performance and report equipment defects, malfunctions, or unsafe conditions.
- Maintain accurate container movement records using designated terminal systems.
- Follow emergency response procedures and report incidents promptly.
- Perform shift duties and work at height when required, following appropriate safety precautions.
Requirements
- Minimum Secondary School Education.
- Valid RTG Crane Operator Certification or competency certificate.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in container terminal operations.
- At least 3 years of experience as an RTG Operator.
- Must meet the applicable competence requirements specified in QatarEnergy Lifting Equipment Regulation, Document No. CORP-PAI-STD-005, Appendix (B), for lifting equipment operators.
- Practical knowledge of RTG operating procedures, safety devices, and container-handling operations.
- Familiarity with RDT, handheld, and VMT systems.
- Ability to work safely at height and perform shift operations.
- Knowledge of terminal safety procedures and emergency response requirements.
