Job description
Responsible for operating heavy-duty forklifts with a safe working load (SWL) of 20 tonnes to support container terminal operations, including cargo handling, material movement, and equipment support activities. Ensure safe and efficient equipment operation in accordance with approved lifting procedures, QatarEnergy regulations, and terminal safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy-duty forklifts (HFL) with a 20-tonne safe working load for cargo and material handling operations.
- Load, unload, lift, transport, and position materials safely within the container terminal.
- Conduct pre-operation inspections and verify the operational condition of the forklift.
- Ensure loads remain within the equipment’s rated capacity and approved lifting limits.
- Follow approved lifting plans, safe operating procedures, and terminal traffic-management rules.
- Coordinate with supervisors, RDT/VMT operators, and other terminal personnel during operations.
- Maintain awareness of surrounding personnel, vehicles, obstacles, and restricted areas.
- Report equipment defects, unsafe conditions, incidents, and operational irregularities promptly.
- Maintain equipment inspection records and operational logs as required.
- Comply with QatarEnergy Lifting Equipment Regulation, applicable terminal procedures, and HSE requirements.
Requirements
- Education: Minimum Intermediate School Education.
- Certification: Valid Heavy Forklift Operator certification applicable to the equipment type and capacity.
- Regulatory Compliance: Must meet the competence requirements specified in QatarEnergy Lifting Equipment Regulation, Document No. CORP-PAI-STD-005, Appendix (B), Competence Requirements for QatarEnergy / Contractor LE Personnel, applicable to forklift operators.
- Must hold valid forklift operator competency certification for the specific equipment type and capacity.
- Must possess a valid Qatari Driving Licence for operating heavy/light vehicles, as applicable.
- Must be familiar with safe forklift operating procedures, lifting practices, load limitations, container terminal operations, and RDT/VMT operations.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in port/container terminal operations, including at least 3 years in a similar position.
